The Story of Hope is an exquisitely illustrated story about a Hero who escapes from the attic of depression, protected by a beautiful cloak.

The Story of Hope is the book the author, locked in despair, was desperate to read but unable to find. So, she wrote a book of her own.

It’s an uplifting story about an unlikely hero called Hope. Trapped in her attic room, she feels forgotten by the world. She takes a journey of self-discovery, protected by a beautiful cloak.

Step-by-step, through the seasons and a complex kaleidoscope of emotions, Hope searches for meaning and eventually discovers herself. She meets a wise stranger and a group of trusted companions. They exchange her dark heavy cloak for a light, beautiful one in which she can find her own place in the world.

The book encourages other struggling heroes who feel trapped and have lost hope to rewrite their own story and find the courage to begin a new chapter. It guides those in despair from what feels like a grey, empty existence to a place of colour and confidence: the life they were meant to lead.

About the author

The author runs a business storytelling consultancy from Hampshire in the UK, under the name of Katherine Ledger. She has written the book using her married name, Katherine Elizabeth James.

She was inspired to write the book after having undergone her own dark, painful journey through despair to freedom. She ran a programme to help young people become leaders by addressing their own mental health issues. She encouraged them to take up a new mantle that made managing depression a positive part of their evolving story.

Through her work and her writing, Katherine empowers others to share their own story of hope where victory through vulnerability is their greatest strength.
